The perpetrators involved in the Armenian Turkish genocide, were the Young Turks. The Young Turk movement emerged in reaction to the absolutist rule of Sultan Abdul-Hamid (Abdulhamit) II. During the Armenian Turkish genocide, the Turkish government
arrested and executed several hundred Armenian intellectuals. After they did
that, they started to arrest and execute regular Armenians. The goal for the
Turkish government was to kill of all of the Armenians. The young Turks believed that a constitution
and a parliamentary were necessary if the Ottoman Empire was ever going to be
considered “civilized.”
